The Best Immersive Art Experiences to Visit in Los Angeles (2024)

Los Angeles is home to some very innovative and thought-provoking immersive art experiences, ranging from virtual reality and augmented reality installations to interactive and mixed-reality art. If you are visiting the city or live here, there are several great exhibitions to visit in 2024.
In this blog, I have set out some of the top places to see immersive art in LA. All details are correct at the time of writing, but please check the exhibition websites for current information before your visit.

Yayoi Kusama at The Broad, 221 S. Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012

Open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 11am to 5pm, Thursday 11am to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 6pm
The Broad is a contemporary art museum located in downtown Los Angeles and is a must for any visit to the city. This art museum opened in 2015, and has become very popular, owing to its striking architecture, spacious galleries and engaging exhibitions and installations.
The Broad has a large collection of artworks to see from over 200 artists, including those by iconic artists, such as, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Roy Lichtenstein.
But, one of the main draws to The Broad are the mind blowing infinity mirror rooms by immersive art pioneer Yayoi Kusama. The Broad has two of Kusama's infinity rooms:
Longing for Eternity (2017), located on the third floor of the museum; and
The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away (2013), located on the first floor. This room has limited capacity, allowing just four visitors at a time.
These rooms are filled with mirrors and LED lights that create an endless, mesmerizing display of reflections.
Whilst these rooms are free to view, they will require a separate ticket reservation.

Astra Lumina Los Angeles is an immersive nighttime walk experience using lights, projections, and audio to create a multi-sensory journey inspired by the stars and space. It takes place in the South Coast Botanic Garden.
It uses lights, projections, and audio to create a multi-sensory, celestial-themed journey through 9 different thematic areas over the Garden’s 87 acres. The experience aims to connect participants with the wonder of the stars before they “return to the sky”.

The World of Illusions in Los Angeles is an interactive art museum that offers a unique, immersive gallery experience where guests become part of the art. It challenges visitors’ senses and perceptions through interactive exhibits and encourages capturing memories through photos.
Guests are encouraged to interact with and become part of the art through touch, movement and photography.
The exhibits are designed to challenge the senses, defy expectations and evoke a sense of wonder. Visitors can take photos and selfies with the interactive art pieces.

For something different, we would recommend visiting The Museum of Jurassic Technology, which can be found in Culver City, Los Angeles.
This museum is unlike any other in Los Angeles. As visitors enter the museum, they will encounter a series of dark corridors, each with its own unique exhibits. These exhibits challenge history, science and art and in doing so, you may start to question the lines between reality and fiction. This is a very thought-provoking experience.
