Vincent van Gogh was a post-impressionist Dutch artist that has become an iconic figure.
Vincent van Gogh created over 2,000 artworks in various forms, including paintings, drawings, and sketches. Many of these artworks have made their way across the Atlantic to the United States. In this article, I have listed some of the best places in California to view the artworks of Vincent van Gogh.

About Vincent van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who created over 2,000 artworks in a period of 10 years, including around 860 oil paintings, most of which date from the last two years of his life.
He was born in the Netherlands in 1853, and died on July 29, 1890, in Auvers-sur-Oise, France, at the age of 37. Van Gogh’s work is notable for its beauty, emotion, and colour, and it has highly influenced 20th-century art.
Van Gogh’s life was marked by mental illness, poverty, and personal tragedy. However, his work has had a lasting impact on the art world and continues to inspire artists and art movements today.
1. Norton Simon Museum of Art, Pasadena, California
The Norton Simon Museum of Art has the largest collection of artworks by Vincent van Gogh in California, and one of the largest collections in the United States. Artworks include:

The Norton Simon Museum collection includes European masterworks from the Renaissance to the 20th century, South and Southeast Asian art spanning 2,000 years, and modern works from Europe and the United States. Some of the main artists on display include: Rembrandt, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Francisco Goya, Edgar Degas, Édouard Vuillard, and Pablo Picasso, who were collected extensively by Norton Simon.
2. The Armand Hammer Museum of Art, Los Angeles, California
Vincent van Gogh is represented by three important paintings, including:

Hospital at Saint-Rémy, 1889
The Armand Hammer Museum of Art and Cultural Center was founded in 1990 by Armand Hammer, an entrepreneur-industrialist, to house his personal art collection. The museum’s collections encompass painting, sculpture, and works on paper, totalling more than 50,000 works of art. These are held in the following collections:
Armand Hammer Collection - A collection of European and American paintings and drawings.
Grunwald Center Collection - A collection of works on paper, containing more than 45,000 prints, drawings, photographs, and artists’ books from the Renaissance to the present.
Hammer Contemporary Collection - A collection of international contemporary art since 1960 with a special focus on Los Angeles-based artists and works on paper.
3. Getty Center, Los Angeles, California
The Getty Center in Los Angeles has one Van Gogh painting on display, Irises, 1889. Irises is a painting that was created while Van Gogh was staying at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France. The painting was the first painting he started after arriving at the asylum.
The Getty Center itself houses a diverse art collection, including:
Medieval and Renaissance sculpture and decorative arts, and rotating exhibitions of illuminated manuscripts.
Sculpture and Italian decorative arts from 1600 to 1800.
French decorative arts from 1600 to 1800, including elaborately furnished panelled rooms.

4. Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, San Francisco, California
Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco includes a number of Vincent van Gogh pieces in its collection, including Chestnuts and Pears, 1886, but none are currently on display.
The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco itself is the largest public arts institution in the city of San Francisco, comprising the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park and the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park. The museums have a permanent collection of about 150,000 objects, organized into nine areas.
